Why a New Concrete Walkway Makes a Difference

Your front walkway is the path every visitor, delivery driver, and family member takes to your door. A cracked, uneven, or plain gray walkway doesn't just look bad — it's a tripping hazard and a missed opportunity to make a great first impression.

A stamped concrete walkway changes that. It gives you the look of natural stone, brick, or slate in a single continuous pour — no joints to shift, no pavers to settle, no weeds growing through cracks. And because concrete is poured as one monolithic slab, it handles foot traffic, freeze-thaw cycles, and South Jersey's weather better than any other walkway material.

At Patrick Breen Masonry & Concrete, we've been designing and installing concrete walkways across South Jersey since 1983. Whether you need a simple front walkway, a decorative stamped path connecting your patio to the pool, or a commercial sidewalk that meets ADA requirements, we build it right the first time — and it shows for decades.

Benefits of a Stamped Concrete Walkway

A new walkway does more than look good — it improves safety, adds value, and ties your entire outdoor space together.

Curb Appeal

Your front walkway is the first thing people see. A stamped concrete walkway with decorative patterns and custom colors instantly elevates your home's appearance and makes a strong first impression from the street.

Safety

Cracked, uneven walkways are the number one cause of trip-and-fall injuries at residential properties. A new concrete walkway eliminates those hazards, and we add non-slip sealer to every project for traction in rain, snow, and ice.

Durability

Concrete walkways handle heavy foot traffic, lawn equipment, and South Jersey's freeze-thaw cycles without shifting, settling, or cracking — especially when installed with proper base prep, control joints, and reinforcement.

Low Maintenance

No weeds between joints. No pavers sinking. No gravel scattering into the lawn. Stamped concrete walkways need only occasional cleaning and resealing every 2–3 years to stay looking like new.

Design Flexibility

Choose from dozens of stamp patterns — ashlar slate, herringbone brick, cobblestone, random stone, wood plank — in any color combination. We can match your existing patio, driveway, or pool deck for a cohesive outdoor look.

Property Value

A new walkway is one of the most cost-effective exterior upgrades you can make. It improves both the function and appearance of your property, which translates directly to higher resale value.

Walkway Options

Types of Concrete Walkways We Install

Front entry walkways are our most common walkway project. These connect your driveway or sidewalk to your front door and set the tone for your entire home. We typically recommend 4–5 feet wide with a stamp pattern and color that complements your home's exterior. Adding a decorative border in a contrasting color gives the walkway a framed, finished look.

Patio-to-pool walkways connect your stamped concrete patio to your pool deck, creating a seamless transition between outdoor living areas. We match the stamp pattern, color, and sealer to your existing concrete so everything looks like it was done at the same time — even if it wasn't.

Side-yard walkways provide a clean, dry path along the side of your house — great for getting from the driveway to the backyard without tracking through the grass. These are usually 3 feet wide and can be done in plain brushed concrete or stamped to match the rest of your hardscaping.

Garden and landscape paths wind through landscaped areas and connect different zones of your yard. Curved designs with random stone or flagstone patterns work especially well for garden paths, creating an organic look that blends with natural surroundings.

Commercial sidewalks for businesses, HOAs, churches, and municipal properties. We pour standard broom-finish sidewalks as well as decorative stamped options for commercial properties that want a more polished appearance. All commercial work meets ADA accessibility requirements.

How It Works

Our Walkway Installation Process

Every walkway follows the same proven process we've refined over 43+ years. No shortcuts, no skipped steps.

Free Estimate

We visit your property, measure the area, discuss layout, width, pattern, and color options, and give you an honest price with no pressure.

Layout & Excavation

We mark the walkway path, excavate to proper depth, and compact a crushed stone base for drainage and stability.

Form & Pour

Forms are set to the exact path and grade. We pour 4,000+ PSI concrete with fiber mesh reinforcement for a strong, crack-resistant slab.

Stamp & Color

Integral color is mixed into the concrete. Release agent is applied, then stamps are pressed in by hand to create your chosen pattern and texture.

Detail & Cut

Borders are hand-tooled, control joints are cut, and edges are detailed. Release agent is washed to reveal the final color.

Seal & Protect

After curing, we apply a sealer with non-slip additive — locking in color and protecting against stains, UV, and weather.

Compare Your Options

Stamped Concrete vs. Paver Walkways vs. Flagstone

Stamped concrete vs. pavers: Paver walkways look great initially, but the joints between individual units invite weed growth, ant hills, and settling. Pavers require periodic re-sanding, re-leveling, and edging maintenance. Stamped concrete delivers a similar look as a single continuous slab — no joints, no shifting, no weeds — and typically costs 20–40% less than a comparable paver installation.

Stamped concrete vs. flagstone: Natural flagstone is beautiful but expensive — typically $25–$50+ per square foot installed. The irregular joints collect debris and grow weeds, and individual stones can shift over time. Stamped concrete with a random stone pattern delivers a nearly identical look for roughly half the cost, with none of the maintenance headaches.

Stamped concrete vs. plain concrete: Plain broom-finish concrete is functional but doesn't add any visual impact to your home. For an additional $3–$6 per square foot, stamped concrete transforms a basic walkway into a decorative feature that ties your entire outdoor space together.

Common Questions

Concrete Walkway FAQ

How much does a stamped concrete walkway cost in South Jersey?
Stamped concrete walkways in South Jersey typically cost $14 to $28 per square foot depending on the pattern, number of colors, and width. A standard front entry walkway (roughly 150–250 sq ft) usually runs between $3,000 and $7,000. Wider walkways with borders and multiple colors will be on the higher end. We provide free on-site estimates so you get exact pricing for your specific project.
How wide should a front walkway be?
A front walkway should be at least 4 feet wide to allow two people to walk side by side comfortably. For a more generous, welcoming entrance, we recommend 5 feet — especially if you're adding a decorative border, which takes up a few inches on each side. Side-yard utility walkways can be as narrow as 3 feet.
Can you match a new walkway to my existing stamped patio?
Yes — we match stamp patterns, integral colors, and release agents to existing stamped concrete so new walkways blend seamlessly with your patio, driveway, or pool deck. We keep detailed records of the products used on past projects, which makes matching easier when you come back for additional work.
How long does a concrete walkway last?
A properly installed and sealed concrete walkway can last 25 to 30 years or more. The key is proper base preparation during installation, control joints in the right locations, and resealing every 2 to 3 years to protect the color and surface from UV, salt, and freeze-thaw damage.
How long does installation take?
Most residential walkway projects take 1 to 2 days — one day for excavation, forming, and pouring, and a second day for detail work and cleanup. The concrete needs 24–48 hours before foot traffic and about 7 days before heavy use. Sealing is done after the curing period.
Do you remove the old walkway?
Yes — every project includes full demolition, removal, and haul-away of the existing walkway or sidewalk. We also re-grade and compact the sub-base before pouring. Everything is included in your estimate.
Can you do curved walkways?
Absolutely. Curved and winding walkways are one of the advantages of poured concrete over pavers — we can form any shape, curve, or angle you want. Curved front walkways are a popular upgrade that adds visual interest and a more welcoming feel compared to a straight path.
What areas do you serve?
We serve all of South Jersey including Mullica Hill, Washington Township, Sewell, Williamstown, Sicklerville, Turnersville, Cherry Hill, Haddonfield, Voorhees, Marlton, Medford, Moorestown, Mount Laurel, and surrounding communities in Gloucester, Camden, Burlington, and Atlantic counties.
